Welcome! My passion is working with horses to teach leadership, team working and communication skills to people of all ages – from 6 to 84 so far! – and from all walks of life.I started to do this work about five years ago and, like many entrepreneurs, I was my own first customer. My teacher was Chelsea! She fulfilled a childhood dream for me – to own a horse – but she had a bigger dream in mind and it is really she who is the founder of the red horse speaks.
When I got her, 14 years ago now, she had had several home is the previous year and, quite understandably, did not think much of humans. My first job was to build trust with her and convince her that I planned to stick with her. In doing this, I realised she was teaching me a lot about myself and my own leadership – quick to point out when I was calm and consistent – and when I was not! Thus the idea of working with horses to teach humans was born – and my plans for retirement were set aside! It took a while to make the transition and devise the programme but it has given me a huge amount of joy and I love being able to work alongside my equine friends.
Despite being fortunate enough to attend many excellent leadership progammes, Chelsea is still the best teacher I have ever had – even on wet days when she refuses to come in because, in her view, I am being impatient.
